History of Ještěd
Ještěd has a rich history stretching far before the current tower. Three buildings have stood on the summit:
First chalet (1844–1907): A simple wooden chalet for tourists, destroyed by lightning fire.
Second chalet (1907–1963): A stone mountain lodge with restaurant and accommodation. Served for half a century before also being destroyed by fire.
Current tower (1966–1973): Karel Hubáček designed a revolutionary concept – telecommunications tower, hotel and restaurant in one building with a hyperboloid shape that perfectly follows the mountain's silhouette. Construction took 7 years and the tower became the symbol of Liberec.
